The right rental depends on what kind of trip you're planning. Here's how we think about it:
For short city breaks in Porto
An apartment in or near the historic centre gives you the freedom to explore on foot. Look for properties in Baixa, Bonfim or Cedofeita for the most characteristic Porto experience. If you prefer sea air and space, Matosinhos is excellent for a slightly more local feel.
For beach holidays in the Algarve
Families and groups tend to prefer holiday homes with a private pool — particularly useful during the peak summer months when beaches are busy and having your own outdoor space matters. The western Algarve (Lagos) is best for dramatic scenery; the eastern Algarve (Tavira) is quieter and less developed.
For solo travel or first-time visits to Portugal
If it’s your first time in Portugal, Porto is an easy place to start. It’s compact, walkable, and gives you a strong sense of the country from day one.
For longer stays
