Apartments in Algarve
Apartments in the Algarve
A self-contained base on Portugal's southern coast
An apartment in the Algarve gives you the flexibility to move around the region at your own pace. Your own kitchen means you can use the markets in Loule or Olhao and cook what you find. Your own space means you are not on anyone else's schedule.
Host Wise manages apartments across the Algarve — from the wilder western coast around Lagos and Sagres to the quieter eastern towns near Tavira. All professionally managed, all bookable direct.
Destinations
Where to stay in the Algarve
The Algarve isn't one place. Each area has a different feel, pace and reason to visit.
Lagos
Western AlgarveDramatic coastline, beaches like Praia Dona Ana and Ponta da Piedade, and a lively historic town. One of the most popular bases in the Algarve for good reason.
Scenery & energy Browse staysAlbufeira
CentralBusier, especially in summer. Good infrastructure, restaurants, nightlife and easy access to beaches. Expect more crowds at peak season.
Groups & summer trips Browse staysTavira
Eastern AlgarveSlower, more relaxed and much less built up. A genuinely beautiful town with a Roman bridge, Ria Formosa lagoons and excellent seafood. Ferry access to some of the Algarve's finest beaches.
Quiet stays & longer visits Browse staysAlvor
Central-WestA charming fishing village with a long boardwalk beach and a lagoon estuary. Quieter than the bigger resorts, with great seafood restaurants and a genuinely relaxed atmosphere year-round.
Relaxed & village feel Browse staysPortimão
Central-WestA proper working town with a waterfront, good restaurants and Praia da Rocha just to the south — one of the Algarve's best urban beaches. Well connected and lively without being purely a resort.
Local feel & waterfront Browse staysVilamoura & Quarteira
CentralVilamoura is the Algarve's upscale marina town — golf, sailing, beaches and a lively restaurant scene. Quarteira, just next door, is more down-to-earth with a great market and local character.
Marina & resort lifestyle Browse staysLagoa
CentralA quieter inland town close to the coast. Less visited than the bigger resorts, with good access to the central Algarve's beaches and the feel of a real Portuguese town.

How long should you stay in the Algarve?
Enough for a taster
A few beaches and one town properly explored. You'll get a strong sense of the Algarve — enough to know you want to come back with more time.
- 2–3 beaches
- One town centre
- A few good dinners
Time to explore properly
You can cover both the west and east coasts, visit the inland market towns, and still have days where you do nothing but sit by a pool. This is the Algarve at its best.
- Multiple coastal areas
- Inland towns like Silves or Loulé
- Day trips and rest in equal measure
You start to slow down
And that's the whole point. Routines start to form. You have a favourite café, a market you return to, beaches that feel like yours. The Algarve is made for this pace.
- Weekly and monthly rates available
- Best outside July–August
- Remote working friendly
Transport
Getting around the Algarve
Distances are bigger than they look on a map. The Algarve stretches around 150 kilometres from east to west — exploring it properly takes more than public transport.
If you're staying in one place, choose carefully.
Location matters more here than in most destinations.
Car — recommended
The best way to explore. Remote beaches, inland towns, cliff walks and coastal viewpoints are all accessible only by car. Rental is easy and affordable, especially outside peak season.
Train
A regional rail line connects Faro, Albufeira, Portimão, Lagos and stations in between. Practical for town-to-town travel, but it won't get you to the beaches or more rural areas.
Uber & Bolt
Available in the main towns — Faro, Albufeira, Lagos, Portimão. Less consistent in smaller villages and rural areas. Useful for evenings and airport transfers, but not a substitute for a car if you want to explore.
Choosing your property type
Villas or apartments: what suits you in the Algarve?
Apartments
- Closer to the beach and town centres
- Easier for short stays or couples
- Self-contained with your own kitchen
- Generally lower cost than villas
Best for couples, solo trips and short stays in a lively coastal town.
Villas & holiday homes
- More space and genuine privacy
- Private pool and outdoor living areas
- Multiple bedrooms for families or groups
- Often located slightly inland or quieter areas
Best for families, groups and longer stays where you want space to spread out.
Extended stays
Is the Algarve good for longer stays?
Yes, especially outside peak summer.
The shoulder seasons — May, June, September and October — give you warm weather, quieter beaches, lower prices and a version of the Algarve that most visitors never see. Winter is mild, genuinely peaceful and increasingly popular with remote workers.
We offer longer stays across the Algarve, with properties suited for weekly or monthly bookings. Whether you're looking for more space, a slower pace or better weather for an extended work trip, we can help you find the right property and the right terms.
Best outside summer
May–June and September–October offer warm weather with far fewer people. Spring is especially good for walking and cycling.
Remote-work friendly
Good internet, affordable costs, reliable sun and a relaxed pace. The Algarve is a practical and pleasant base for an extended work stint.

Questions about apartments in the Algarve
Our Algarve apartments are spread across the region — from the western Algarve towns like Lagos and Sagres to the central coast around Albufeira and Carvoeiro, and the quieter eastern stretch around Tavira and Olhao. We cover both coastal and slightly inland locations.
Yes. Our Algarve apartment portfolio includes studio and one-bedroom options well suited to couples and solo travellers who want a self-contained base without the scale of a holiday villa.
The Algarve works year-round. Summer (June-August) is the peak beach season — warm, busy and vibrant. September and October are our team's favourite months: still warm enough to swim, much quieter, and the light is exceptional. Spring (March-May) is beautiful for walking and cycling. Winter is mild and increasingly popular for longer digital nomad stays.
Many of our Algarve apartments have balconies, terraces or garden access. Check individual property listings for details on outdoor space. For properties with private pools and larger gardens, see our Holiday Homes collection.
A car is the most convenient way to explore the Algarve, especially if you want access to the more remote beaches and inland areas. That said, the main towns are well connected by local bus services, and many of our apartments are within walking distance of beaches, restaurants and transport links.
